In the warm living room Carly catches hours of sleep
My little baby has been battling a cough, and sniffles for a while now. Since I next to never write things down on the calendar and because this seems to be lasting forever I couldn't really tell you exactly when it began just that it's been hard on her.
This morning she had better color and that accompanied by the little mischievous sparkle in her eye that has become part of her sweet little personality. Everyone's glad to see her feeling better and I'm just so thankful that we haven't had to go in to see the doctor or needed any sort of antibiotics. Aside from staying nice and cozy she's been wanting extra snuggles and attention, with patience it's been working. As she's getting better I'm sleeping more and feeling more alive myself.
How is it that she's coming up on 7 months old? And working on sitting up, and talking and I just don't blog about her enough! Lately there just seems to be so much happening with her that it's hard to keep up.
Carly now does an adorable baby talk, I'll have to try to catch it on video. :)
She has also been thinking that late hours are hours for her to be up--like hours past Deeder's bedtime. The cry it out business doesn't work since we all sleep in the same room...hopefully her hours will go back to normal soon.
Our little Carly has been with us for one week now. She was born last Thursday evening at 7:45PM weighing in at 6 pounds, 12 ounces. She's now 6lbs 11oz, having nearly returned to her birth weight.
She's already becoming more alert and as of two days ago gave us her very first big smile! Of course it happened at a time when Mommy didn't have the camera on hand, go figure! Carly has been sleeping hours and hours on end, as is typical for babies her age. Thankfully, when she is awake she loves hanging out with Deeder. He's tickled pink by this and although he doesn't quite understand "Be gentle" he loves her beyond words, it makes me so happy. I think she recognizes his voice from when she was in utero and finds as much comfort from hearing him now as she does in my voice.
Another thing that I am vastly thankful for is how well Carly eats. Deeder had a lot of trouble figuring out the nursing business so I'm even more appreciative of her being a natural in this aspect.
So far nights are pretty easy with Carly--well, other than the space between 2 and 4AM at which time she believes it's time to be AWAKE. Somehow Deeder knows this and has decided that he too ought to be up and playing with her. When he wakes he's hungry and wants me to fetch his something to eat. After he's eaten he's geared up to play those whole two hours. I guess if I want to look at this in a positive light I could tell you that this active midnight stuff makes him sleep an hour longer than he used to. This is true, sadly it makes me want to sleep an hour extra which doesn't happen since Carly is ready to eat again at 6:30. After she's eaten it's light outside and I can't get back into slumber land even though she's re-entered that peaceful land.
I plan to write monthly Carly Annalise Taryn updates as I have done with Diederick Dale. It's fun to reflect each month on what we've done and how they've grown. Hopefully you'll enjoy these as much as I am fond of writing them.
Check Waking Early for a report on the alarming rash Carly had this past weekend. Thankfully it's cleared up now!
She finally arrived! This is daddy writing and not the famous Laura. Carly Annalise-Taron Harr 6lbs 12 oz and 19 inches. May 29 08 7 45 pm. We made it to the hospital at 7pm and 45 min later well.... Mommy was absolutely incredible, She never lost her smile, No not even once. We had a friend with us to take Diederick when things got wild but he would not allow anyone to be in the way of him and his mommy He was by her side all the way. We went to visit this morning and all was well, Diederick knew Carly was his baby sister. While mommy was lying down waiting for baby to come Diederick said "Baby Baby" pointing to mommy. He wasnt surprised at all to see a baby 30 minutes later. Carly couldnt ask for a better brother nor can anyone compare to her mommy. Mommy will be home tomorrow and I apologize for no pictures yet.
Take note of how he holds one arm out when he spins. He keeps his eyes strongly fixed on that arm as he twirls around--is the point to keep himself from becoming dizzy?
Today was a stay-at-home day. With the temp in the single digits overnight we never got enough warmth for the boy and I to venture out for a walk. In honesty I don't think I could write that I enjoyed being inside. I just didn't mind it as much as I often do.
We both, and Daddy too, got good night's sleep and woke up ready to welcome anything good that could happen! And possibly take not so good things with humor.
Deeder's big things today were spinning, as seen above, and poking poor Mommy's tummy (which I promise will never be seen above). I've grown quite a bit this week and he thinks its all for his personal entertainment!
Like this morning, I was sitting innocently reading the paper and munching on some strawberry jam toast and next thing I know I have this little kid at my knees giggling insanity and poking my belly! The little stinker snuck up on me under the table! Can you believe that?
He wouldn't even leave me alone during story time. I wore a big sweatshirt hoping to keep him away, but I guess the decreasing amount of lap room for him constantly reminds him that mommy has a BIG tummy.
That was pretty much our day. And we ate. We always eat a lot!
Seven o'clock finally rolled around. I folded laundry and loaded the dishwasher then started wiping the counter, those are the things that happen before we go upstairs to get ready for bed. Deeder was sitting on the couch reading one of his doggie books. As I was rinsing out the washcloth and going for the broom to sweep up he suddenly looked up, slammed the book closed with a satisfying clap and hopped down. "Mom! Oggie!" I think I said, "Yes, honey, there are lots of doggies in that book, aren't there?"
He ran over to the shoe rack and pulled down my shoes and brought them into the kitchen. "MOM! OGGIE!!" I told him to put the shoes back--which he did. He was over there for a little while then came back with one of his rubber boots on and the other in his hand. He was walking really awkwardly because the boot was on the wrong foot and caught up on his pant leg. It finally dawned on me that he wanted to go outside and see Daddy's doggie. I told him that this wasn't a good idea because there was ice on the ground and the sun had gone to bed.
But it was when he got his jacket down and found his hat that I had to comply. Who cares about ice anyway??
Out we went, all bundled up and let that Oggie out. I had to hold Deeder because Oggie isn't very fond of him. He completely enjoyed watching her leave her yellow marks all over the snow. Sometimes I think she intentionally leaves her marking where our land lady will see them! Of course I don't care enough to follow the dog around and scoop up the pee marks.
After we put the dog back in the garage I let Deeder dance in the moonlight for a few minutes. He didn't mind falling, since he's not very tall he didn't get hurt like mommy would if she fell. It was 7:45 when we were finally in our kitchen again. Deeder would have loved to stay out longer.
Today I was noticing how lovely Deeder smells. He still smells like a baby to me... Mmmmm.
Tomorrow is Daddy's day off. I'm going to bed now. Mommy's much nicer to be around when she's fully rested. Daddy can tell you all about that!
