Carly Annalise Taryn: 1 Week Old

Our little Carly has been with us for one week now. She was born last Thursday evening at 7:45PM weighing in at 6 pounds, 12 ounces. She's now 6lbs 11oz, having nearly returned to her birth weight.

She's already becoming more alert and as of two days ago gave us her very first big smile! Of course it happened at a time when Mommy didn't have the camera on hand, go figure!
Carly has been sleeping hours and hours on end, as is typical for babies her age. Thankfully, when she is awake she loves hanging out with Deeder. He's tickled pink by this and although he doesn't quite understand "Be gentle" he loves her beyond words, it makes me so happy. I think she recognizes his voice from when she was in utero and finds as much comfort from hearing him now as she does in my voice.

Another thing that I am vastly thankful for is how well Carly eats. Deeder had a lot of trouble figuring out the nursing business so I'm even more appreciative of her being a natural in this aspect.

So far nights are pretty easy with Carly--well, other than the space between 2 and 4AM at which time she believes it's time to be AWAKE. Somehow Deeder knows this and has decided that he too ought to be up and playing with her. When he wakes he's hungry and wants me to fetch his something to eat. After he's eaten he's geared up to play those whole two hours. I guess if I want to look at this in a positive light I could tell you that this active midnight stuff makes him sleep an hour longer than he used to. This is true, sadly it makes me want to sleep an hour extra which doesn't happen since Carly is ready to eat again at 6:30. After she's eaten it's light outside and I can't get back into slumber land even though she's re-entered that peaceful land.

I plan to write monthly Carly Annalise Taryn updates as I have done with Diederick Dale. It's fun to reflect each month on what we've done and how they've grown. Hopefully you'll enjoy these as much as I am fond of writing them.

Check Waking Early for a report on the alarming rash Carly had this past weekend. Thankfully it's cleared up now!
